Full Compatibility List and Supported Devices of Fiber Optic Transceiver
One of the biggest advantages of third-party optical transceiver is their strong brand compatibility, which helps enterprises cut hardware costs without sacrificing performance. Our 1G SFP 80km optical transceivers are fully tested and certified to work seamlessly with the Arista Networks equipments:
High-Density Top-of-Rack & Leaf/Spine Switches: 7010T, 7020R, 7050, 7060, 7150, 7280 Series
Main Application Scenarios of Fiber Connection Module
Data Center Interconnect (DCI) Control Lines: Establishing dedicated, physically isolated 1G out-of-band management loops, replication links, or telemetry lines between primary and backup cloud centers up to 80km apart.
Metropolitan Cloud Fabric Aggregation: Linking distributed corporate centers, horizontal campus cores, or heavy industrial storage structures directly back into a primary regional Arista switching matrix.
Regional Provider Transport Ring Backhauls: Routing high-volume aggregation traffic from remote metro edge switches over immense regional fiber paths.

Q1: Can the Arista SFP-1G-EX-80 be used in 10G SFP+ or 25G SFP28 interface cages?
A1: Yes, absolutely. The SFP-1G-EX-80 relies on a native 1000BASE-X fiber protocol framework that higher-rate SFP slots natively support. To lock the connection on an Arista switch port, you must access the interface configuration in EOS and manually drop the lane operating rate using the command line string: speed forced 1000full.
Q2: Does this module support real-time DOM inside Arista EOS?
A2: Yes. The 1G ZX transceiver fully supports Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM). You can watch real-time optical power, bias current, voltage and temperature.
Q3: What is the main difference?Arista SFP-1G-EX and SFP-1G-EX-80?
A3: The difference is operating wavelength and transmission distance. The standard Arista SFP-1G-EX uses 1310nm wavelength to transmit data up to 40km. The SFP-1G-EX-80 utilize 1550nm laser to boosts the power budget to reach up to 80k.
Q4: Do I need to use an inline optical attenuator with this module?
A4: Yes! If your fiber optic loop is short (less than 20-30 km), you must use an attenuator. This is because the SFP-1G-EX-80 has high transmitter power and low receiver sensitivity. Without using a 10dB optical attenuator for short-distance testing, the receiver diodes will be permanently damaged immediately.
Q5: What type of fiber connector profile does this transceiver feature?
A5: The module uses a small form-factor LC Duplex female connection profile. It pairs directly with standard duplex LC-to-LC Single-Mode fiber patch cords (typically Yellow jacketed OS1/OS2 cables).
